S= ector Skills Agreements (SSAs) are designed to ensure= that employers have the right people with the right skills at the right time. Th= ey are a compact between (on the one hand) business and (on the other) governments, funding agencies and partners which, in the instance of the environmental a= nd land-based sector, is brokered by Lantra. =

In exchange for greater investment in skills and business development, employe= rs will be able to centrally influence skills policies and the deployment of r= esources.  Lantra commenced the development of this SSA in= Spring 2005. In September 2005 a detailed analysis of = the skills needs of the sector, together with an appraisal of learning provisio= n, was published. This report comprises one of a series of consultation docume= nts covering each of the four UK countries, English regions, Scottish areas and our individual industries.&n= bsp;

T= hrough the first half of 2006 Lantra negotiated with governments and partners to secure commitment to the changes they were seek= ing, as well as building commitment from the sector. They anticipated ‘sig= ning off’ the Agreement in Summer 2006.
