The Examination in Public= (EiP) is held to discuss and test the Draft Revision (Draft RSS for the South Wes= t) to the Regional Spatial Strategy (RSS) for the South West. View the E= IP Public Notice

The examination of selected matte= rs arising from representations on the Draft RSS for the South West (June 2005) will be held in public and before an independent Panel ap= pointed by the First Secretary of State consisting of Jim Parke, BSc (Hons) Geography, MRTPI as Chair, David Lavender MRTPI, Inspector Member and Rhys Davies CEng MI= CE Panel Member.

Preliminary List of Matte= rs and Participants

A Preliminary List of Matters and Participants for the EiP was published on Friday 17 November 2006. Those i= nvited by the Panel to participate at the Examination in Public (EiP) have been notified directly and sent copies of the proposed timetable, the Preliminary Lists and the Notes for Participants. A Notice will indicate the procedures to be followed by Non-invited Participants wishing to contribute= to the Examination process and the documents will be available to download from the EiP website.

A joint response with the SW Rural Affairs Forum was submitted to the EIP and we have been invited to particip= ate in the following sessions: -

·      = Overall level of housing <= /o:p>

·      = Strategy approach – SSCTs = and other settlements

·      = Strategy approach – Rural areas

Following publication of the Preliminary List of Matters and Participants there will be a 28 day consultation period for any comments on the Prelimina= ry Lists (to the effect that other matters persons/organisations should be invited) should= be sent in writing to the Panel Secretary at the address given below. These comments should arrive by no later than 5.00 pm Friday 15 December 2006. The Final List of Matte= rs and Participants will be published in late January 2007. =

A First Preliminary Meeti= ng will be held in the Thistle Hotel, Queen Street, Exeter at 2.00pm on Tuesday 16th January 2007<= /strong>.  One of the purposes of the Meeting is to explain (and answer questions about) how the examination will be conducted and to clarify any points arising from the Notes for Participants. 

The Second Preliminary Meeting is scheduled to take place at 2.= 00 pm on Tuesday 6 March 2007 and will give further guidance on the preparation of Written Submissions and explain arrangements for the Examination and answer any questions that participants or others may have about the process. The meeti= ngs are open to potential participants and to the public. The Minutes of the Meeting will be made available on the EiP websi= te.

The EiP is anticipated to commence at 10.00am on Tuesday 17 April 2007 and is expected= to last for around nine weeks.
